Below is a list of questions and responses that we commonly recieve. If you have a question that has not been covered in this site we would like to hear from you. For an answer to your questions about memorialization, please contact us.
Question #1 | I would like to add lettering to an existing memorial already in the cemetery. Can I have this done without removing the monument? |
Answer: | Yes, absolutely. Remco's mobile inscription unit can add lettering to your memorial in any cemetery in Western Canada. This service is frequently used for adding the final date of passing. |
Question #2 | How much does a memorial cost? |
Answer: | The short answer here is, it depends on many factors. Memorials vary on cost based on their size, shape, colour and design. The important thing to remember is that a memorial is intended to last forever which means that value is the most important consideration. Basing your decision on cost alone is not advised because quality and workmanship are often compromised with a "cheap" monument. For pricing information, please contact your local Remco Authorized dealer. |
Question #3 | What is the difference between a monument, memorial or a headstone? |
Answer: | There are many different terms used. The most common, being the term "headstone". Despite its common use, we at Remco do not use this term because we believe our everlasting memorial monuments are a meaningful symbol of a life, which mean even more to our clients. The term describes the technical function, but we believe it does not convey how much a family's memorial means. |
Question #4 | Should we still purchase a memorial if we choose cremation? |
Answer: | Whether you choose cremation or a traditional burial, the need to memorialize does not change. Cremation memorials are becoming more popular every year because of the vast array of product options that are available. Whether the cremated remains are being interred in a cemetery, columbarium, personal urn or scattered there are many options for cremation memorials. |
Question #5 | Can I buy a memorial if there is still snow on the ground? |
Answer: | Although a monument cannot be installed until the ground melts, you can still purchase a memorial during the winter. By purchasing in the winter, the installation of your monument will have priority over customers who purchase later, meaning that your memorial will be installed early in the spring. |
Question #6 | I would like to buy my memorial in advance and have it installed in the cemetery. Can I do this? |
Answer: | Pre-planning is a popular choice among those we serve. You can have your memorial manufactured and stored in our secure facility or it can be installed in the cemetery. In either case, the final dates can be added either at our plant or in the cemetery. There are several advantages to arranging your memorial in advance such as cost control, peace of mind and timeliness of installation. |
Question #7 | My family has an old memorial which has become very difficult to read. Can you fix this? |
Answer: | Remco does several memorial restoration projects each year. Our team can remove the monument from the cemetery and bring it back to our manufacturing facility. We can re-polish and re-letter the face of the monument using modern sandblasting methods which Remco guarantees to remain legible forever. |
Question #8 | Laser-engraving looks really nice, but will it remain legible forever? |
Answer: | Recently, we had an engineering firm conduct accelerated weather testing on our laser-engraved products. After the equivalent of 24 years of Canadian weather, the tests found that there was no deterioration or loss of legibility. Remco guarantees all laser work forever. |
